Psalm 119:11 says “Your word have I hidden in my heart that I might not sin against you.”
Many contemporaries of Daniel may have looked back at their experiences and their losses and determined to start a completely new way of life away from home with no hope of returning to Judah. What therefore may have given them assurance and kept them obedient to God’s word? It was KNOWLEDGE among other things.
Daniel 1:17 says: As for these four young men, God gave them KNOWLEDGE and skill in all literature and wisdom. Therefore, they understood the prophecies of Jeremiah pertaining to the captivity. Jeremiah had said in Jeremiah 13:19 The cities of the south shall be shut up, and no one shall open to them; Judah shall be carried away captive, all of it; …. and the duration was specified in Jeremiah 25:11 “And this whole land shall be a desolation and an astonishment, and these nations shall serve the king of Babylon seventy years.” This is what Daniel knew and acted on in Daniel 9:2 “in the first year of his reign I, Daniel, understood by the books the number of years specified by the word of the LORD through Jeremiah the prophet, that He would accomplish seventy years in the desolations of Jerusalem.”
These men exercised confidence in their God and serve Him and DO His will based on knowledge. Therefore, to get to the second level of obedience, STUDY to show yourself approved unto God, MEMORISE His word, MEDITATE on His word and APPLY His word.
Thanks for reading and may your weekend be productive for the LORD
